How To Drift In Drift Hunters
You’re ready to start burning your tyres at this stage!
Don’t get too worked up if things don’t go as planned straight away. It takes time and patience to master the art of drifting, but it’s well worth the wait. It’s better to start with the fundamentals while learning to drift.
If you’re used to playing with a wheel or joystick, playing with the keyboard will take some getting used to.
To begin, we recommend devoting some time to understanding how the automobile reacts as well as the movement/weight change.
Start with donuts and figure-of-eights until you’re confident in your ability to accomplish the correct handling abilities by tapping the left and right arrows.
Once you’ve mastered the fundamentals, it’s time to put them to the test as you prepare to corner your car.
Step 1 – Initiation (Starting the drift)
The transition from driving straight to tossing the automobile sideways is known as initiation, and it may be accomplished using either of these approaches.
E-Brake
When you press the “Space” key on your keyboard, the rear wheels lock up, making weight shifting easier when turning at the same time.
The e-brake approach is simple, but it will slow the automobile down, which makes it excellent for low-speed turns.
Power Over (Weight Transfer)
When you apply a substantial amount of throttle while pointing the car in the direction of the bend you’re entering, you’re said to be powering over (Up arrow.)
You’ll rapidly counter-steer into the other direction while pressing the throttle once the back end starts to pop out.
For the initiation, like with everything else in drifting, practise makes perfect, so spend some time learning these strategies to see which ones work best for you.
E-brake is likely to be the simplest way to begin started, and as your confidence grows, you’ll be able to initiate faster.
It’s very normal to keep spinning out until you get the hang of it, so don’t get too worked up!
Step 2 – Maintaining the drift (Staying sideways)
Once you’ve mastered initiating and getting the car sideways, it’s time to learn how to keep the drift going for as long as possible.
You’ll want to ‘capture’ the weight shift as quickly as possible now that the back end has stepped out.
The simplest approach to achieve this is to gradually increase your speed and begin utilising your preferred strategy.
You may either ease off the throttle or touch it intermittently to maintain speed when the car is sideways.
Too much throttle will almost certainly send you crashing into the barrier, but if all else fails, you may always slam the brake pedal (down arrow).
If the car appears to be turning too far and creating too much angle, ease off the throttle or touch the e-brake until it returns to its original position, while counter-steering to adjust if required.
Once you get the hang of it, maintaining the drift is simple. Be confident and heavy with the throttle, then use the brake/e-brake approaches and steering to keep the car at the proper angle
Step 3 – Transitioning (Switching direction)
As change sides mid-drift, continuing to touch the e-brake when necessary can make the procedure a lot easier as you juggle the steering to obtain the appropriate angle.
Again, don’t be afraid to slam on the gas pedal hard throughout the changeover.
You want to “catch” the car’s weight as it transitions, which you may achieve by counter-steering with the right throttle.
Learning takes time, but if you’re patient, you’ll soon enjoy the benefits.
Step 4 – Exiting the Drift
Allow the weight shift to bring the back end of the car to its desired position, then apply full throttle and a few ‘taps’ on the e-brake (space) until the vehicle is back travelling at the right angle.
